The 5th Wommin Womp Comp (WWC) ran at Fingal Beach this year; this was the first time the event has been run there since WWC1, back in 2014. It was held in 2-3ft wedgey conditions on the southern tip of Fingal Beach. Starting at 7am, running through to 1:30pm. High tide was at 9am, and it was probably peak conditions an hour later during the recharge round - awesome for all those knocked out in the opening rounds (cheers Huey). The final saw some challenging conditions, but in the end it was a familiar face that took it out.

Jack Macrae, much to the disdain of everyone, has cemented himself as the best bodysurfer in Fingal history. He did the unthinkable and went back-to-back-to-back. A three time winner and a true champion. This is a huge achievement as the quality of the bodysurfing is improving astronomically every year.

A big congrats must go to all the other individual winners as well. Lewis Churchill took out the juniors. Phoebe MacTaggart took out the women & John Baxter took out the over 50’s. We also set a new world record in the ladies event, with 14 girls simultaneously bodysurfing a single wave. With pictures to be sent into Guinness and get that one in the books.

We had 72 competitors in the opens, 8 in the juniors, 15 in the over 50s and 14 in the womens event. A grand total of 109 competitors. The biggest bodysurfing event in Australia! None of this would be achievable if it wasn’t for a few special individuals.

Firstly, our main sponsor, DMC. They provided every prizewinner with a set of fins and brought a level of professionalism we hadn’t previously had. The fact he let anybody and everybody borrow a set of DMC fins was epic! Really appreciate the generosity and the vibe you brought to the table. Also have to throw a huge shakkas to Garage Handplanes who provided our first place prize, The Barrel Monster Handplane.

Secondly, every volunteer who contributed to making this thing happen - thank you. James (Lonewolf Co.) was the score keeper for the entire event. He had his work cut out for him and absolutely killed it. To the fabrics department - Tommy hand stitched the cape for the winner, Kaitlyn put together the capes for the other winners, Mitch & Lewis designed the T-shirts, and Scarlett sold them on the day. Harry put in a huge effort in the early phases with Instagram content, ordering the merchandise and designing the caps. Gussie and the Barrel Pig for the work put in Friday and Saturday nights. Rory and Bryce for making the scoreboard. The band absolutely ripped, can’t stress how hard these guys rule. A huge thank you to Matt Armitage on the guitar and vocals, Saxon on the guitar, Eli on the drums & DMac on the sexy sax. It’s hard to remember everybody, so if i’ve forgotten you - I apologise. I felt this was the most volunteers we’ve had, so a huge thank you to everybody.

Lastly, the man - Rowan. I say it every year, but there is no Wommin Womp Comp without Rowan Churchill. He is there from the very start to the very end, and manages to throw the best competition i’ve ever been to, and backs it up with the craziest party. His generosity, trust and passion is what makes this event.
